an ode the Muslim culture

what is it?

Every designer need inspiration. And why shouldn’t you take inspiration from a different culture? Dolce & Gabbana didn’t doubt and released a whole collection with headscarves, hijab and abaya’s (dresses) as a ode to the muslim culture. The dresses consist of neutral colors, beige, white, black and well known embroidered flowers.

why is it cool?

It is not the first time that a brand dedicate their collection to ‘different’ models , like H&M did with her campaign ‘close the loop’,69 models of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds. But it is the first time that a brand like Dolce & Gabbana dedicate a whole new collection to a ‘different’ culture, namely the muslim culture. I think this is great step forward because this culture has other dress code than Europa has. The fashion brand shows their respect to design clothes for Muslims so they are able to wear designer clothes too. Not bad, because Arab women value brands, for example haute couture brands. But the most interesting part of the collection is the veil. Everyone has his own opinion about it, and there are not always positive. Maybe the two designers will continue the discussion concerns headscarves in public with their collection. Why can’t a woman wears what she wants? And why can’t a ‘not-muslim’ wear a headscarf if they think it’s beautiful whitout getting comments?

Let’s hope Dolce & Gabbana will be a mirror in which the fashion world can see their reflection.
